  • It’s not about choosing one network, it’s choosing several ‘web 2.0 technologies’ that add into your overall company and marketing strategy. As a social media consultant, I tell people to be in at least two socially unique networks in order to maximize their web presence.

I’ll give an example of a woman I’m currently consulting with. She’s an artist who’s very talented, but hasn’t put her work online until last month. She approached me for consulting on how to get more pageviews in order to sell her artwork. My recommendation was to be on deviantart.com (her current website) and to get on LinkedIn. On deviantart, she can meet other artists and improve her style, but probably won’t be able to sell her artwork. Why? Because deviantart is made up of other artists who are only interested in selling. LinkedIn, on the other hand, is mostly business people who would benefit from buying art or hiring a freelance artist. By using both networks, she can produce results.
